The Rungrado 1st of May Stadium in Pyongyang North Korea holds the distinction of being the largest football stadium in the world, accommodating a staggering number of up to 150,000 individuals. While there are sources that suggest a slightly lower capacity of 114,000, it should be noted that even this figure would position the stadium as the largest of its kind globally.

The Maracanã Stadium holds the record for the highest recorded attendance, with a staggering 199,854 spectators witnessing the thrilling match between Uruguay and Brazil in 1950. As of now, the stadium’s capacity has been reduced to 78,838 spectators.

This fact regarding football is truly remarkable, considering the totalitarian regime of North Korea and their relatively low profile in the international arena.
